Diamond

Ethereal, with an undeniable brilliance, each diamond is a sparkling gem with its own story tell. Typically recognised as April's birthstone, diamonds are frequently linked with love.

The Greek word 'adamas' gave birth to the term 'diamond', which presently translates to 'invincible' or 'unconquerable' in the English language. The name mirrors the extraordinary strength and resilience of diamonds.

In ancient times, astrologers held the belief that the personality traits of the independent and optimistic zodiac sign, Aries, were best reflected in the quality of diamonds.

These precious gems are formed through immense pressure and force acting upon carbon for billions of years within the earth's crust. Their incredible ability to endure this journey, while emerging stronger and more stunning, captivates human fascination.

With their composition consisting of just one element, carbon, diamonds embody the essence of beautiful simplicity.

Often associated with love, strength, and purity, the ancient Romans wrote about Cupid's diamond-tipped arrows that bring love to whomever they hit. The tradition of giving diamond engagement rings dates back to the 15th century, with the idea being that the strength and durability of the diamond symbolise the endurance of love.

Diamonds are believed to bring balance and clarity to mind and enhance one's ability to manifest their desires. In some spiritual traditions, diamonds are seen as a symbol of enlightenment and spiritual awakening.

A clear gemstone that surpasses all others in the precious stone family, diamonds embody purity, strength and fortitude. It inspires invincibility, and brilliance, giving the wearer clarity to the new and possible and reminding us that there is light at the end of the tunnel no matter how much pressure.

Diamonds can be found in almost any colour, including black, champagne, pink or yellow, and the unique speckled ‘salt & pepper’ diamond.

In 1931 the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) developed and pioneered the industry standard known as 'The 4C's'.

Diamonds are graded using these four aspects - cut, clarity, colour and carat.

Together, they determine a diamond’s quality and value. This standard brought uniformity to the industry and is now the common language between all tradespeople and consumers of this sparkling gem.

In addition to their symbolic and spiritual qualities, diamonds are also valued for their physical properties. They are one of the hardest-known substances, and their durability makes them a popular choice for engagement rings and other types of jewellery.

No matter their origin, diamonds all share one thing in common: their beauty. Their sparkling facets catch the light and dazzle the eye, evoking feelings of love and passion in those who behold them.

They have been given as gifts, worn as adornments, and passed down as family heirlooms. And even today, they continue to capture our hearts and inspire our imaginations.

So if you ever find yourself gazing at a diamond, remember the incredible journey that brought it into being. It is a reminder of the beauty and wonder of our world and the power of nature to create something truly extraordinary.
