Our Metals

Our Metals

Learn about our consciously crafted jewellery and the beauty of precious metals with Zoë & Morgan.

From sterling silver to gold and platinum, our pieces are crafted with care and love, creating cherished heirlooms that will stand the test of time.

We are committed to ensuring that our stones and metals are responsibly sourced – for more details about our processes, visit our Ethics page.

22k Gold Plate

We offer 22k gold plate in our contemporary range,  these are pieces crafted in 925 sterling silver and then plated with 3 microns of 22 carat gold. The plating is done in-house and locally, allowing us to offer a re-plating service for your Zoë & Morgan jewellery if needed.

Please note that our gold-plated items might have traces of nickel.

925 Sterling Silver

Our recycled sterling silver is stamped with ‘925’ and to be classified as this, it must contain a minimum of 92.5% pure silver with the remaining portion made up of a mixture of other alloys.

Sterling silver is often comprised of copper, zinc, or nickel to enhance the strength and durability of the metal. At Zoë & Morgan, we take pride in our jewellery being nickel-free, ensuring comfortable wear for everyone.

Taking good care of your sterling silver is important for maintaining its shine over time.

Regular cleaning and proper storage can prevent tarnishing, which occurs when the metal interacts with elements in the environment.

With a little care and love, your sterling silver jewellery can become cherished heirlooms, passed down through generations, carrying the memories of special moments with you.

Its lustrous appearance beautifully complements a wide range of gemstones and materials, making it a budget-friendly option

Yellow Gold

Gold holds a rich historical significance as one of the earliest known metals discovered, its name originating from the old English word for yellow, 'geolu.' Its purity is measured in carats, with 24-carat gold representing pure gold.

At Zoë & Morgan we use both 9k and 18k yellow gold for our fine and demi-fine jewellery.

18k contains 75% pure gold and 9k with 37.5% pure gold, with the remaining percentages being made up of other alloys such as silver and copper.

White Gold

To create white gold, pure gold is combined with white metals such as nickel, palladium, or silver to achieve a silvery-white colour. White gold gained popularity during the Art Deco period due to its clean and elegant look that perfectly complemented bold geometric designs.

Rhodium plating enhances white gold's lustre and appearance, providing added protection against scratches and tarnishing. However, keep in mind that this plating may wear away over time, so re-plating with rhodium every 12 to 18 months can help maintain its brilliance.

Platinum

Platinum is a precious metal and one of the rarest elements found on Earth, it derives its name from the Spanish word 'Platina,' meaning 'little silver’.

This durable and enduring metal is resistant to tarnish, making it an ideal choice for jewellery.

At Zoë & Morgan, we craft platinum pieces using high-content platinum of at least 95% purity. Its hypoallergenic properties make it a safe and comfortable metal for daily wear, ensuring you can cherish your platinum jewellery for a lifetime.

Circularity

One of the wonderful things about metals is that we’re able to melt down preloved or unrepairable jewellery, leaving nothing to waste.

To encourage our community to recycle their older jewellery and continue the material journey, we’ve introduced our Circularity System.
